After a whirlwind time in Denver – meetings with the Mayor, volunteering with Dress for Success Denver and Fashion Group International Denver (congratulations www.AnnaFestaDesign.com), attending the Barrera International Autumn 2014 Couture show (www.barrerainternational.com); I finally boarded a plane to New York City for Spring 2014 shows at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.
Not only am I here as Special Lesbian Corespondent for Out Front Colorado (www.ofcnow/TLC), I am excited to be covering my first events for The Seattle Lesbian (www.theseattlelesbian.com). Combined with the unofficial launch of The Lesbian Socialite website (a quiet introductory cocktail event for a select & fashionable few), this is already a great week.
Day One – Credentials
Rubbing the sleep out of my eyes and faking that my body knows it’s crossed two time zones, I head to “the tents” to pick up my credentials. Dropped off some chocolate for Ms. Ashley in the credential trailer, she needs it after dealing with this seasons “issues” with getting people credentialed.
I had already heard from my fashion protegee, Blake. He was there and ready. In fine protegee form, he had scored the invite for Vogue Magazine Runway Retreat for me. Armed with camera and confidence, into the tents we go. I am always a little blown away by the energy buzzing under the tent. You kind of have to take a deep breath and plunge in. It can be a lot for a neophyte, Blake was a bit twitter-pated.
We pick up periodicals first. Modum is the bible for stylists. If for nothing else, it’s got the press contacts for all of the MBFW designers. If you need to pull clothes, borrow clothes, or interview the designer, these are the people that can make that happen. WWD is like the Old Testament – you aren’t actually a fashion brand if WWD isn’t reporting on you. The Front Row Daily – if it’s a fashion happening, it’s in “The Daily”.
I tasted some delicious frozen kefir from Lifeway and had a great chat with Lucy. You gotta try the mango and pomegranate (www.lifeway.net).
Since I had tix for a presentation at 2.30pm and it was only 12.30, we popped over to the Vogue Runway Retreat. This was exactly how I needed to start my fashion week. Located in the private dining room, in the wine cellar, of Bar Boulud just across from the tents, the Runway Retreat had the team from Pantene offering hair touch ups and Team Jane Iredale offering make up touch ups with the beautiful line of combination skincare and make up. I have particular love for the D2O Hydration Spray. My skin felt so good! (www.janeiredale.com)
With a glass of champagne in hand, I made friends with the team from Brahmin and their beautiful new line “Atelier”. The skins were beautiful. The bags are classic, functional and delightfully luxurious. Hope I win that bag!. www.Brahmin.com
I did go to shows. Still waiting on all of the pics. Look for my next post on the trends so far.
